The reason for developing of th Muenzenberg was the founding of an
old
convent
which was dedicated to the Saint Maria. The foundation was during
the time of the first
abbot
Mathilde and existed until the war of farmers, respectively the
Reformation. The Reformation was introduced in Quedlinburg in the
year 1539 during the
control
of
abbot
Anna II. After that the
convent
was left unused, respectively used partly as
quarry.
So musicians, craftsmen and journeymen settled here around
1580.
Even today the buildings there are so nice and sweet like the
first from the settlers of this time. Because of this the owners
today don’t want to leave although there are larger buildings in
the city of Quedlinburg. For me as night watchman it is always a
beautiful and thrilling thing to go with visitors to the
Muenzenberg during the night. The enthusiasm of my visitors is
shown in their eyes after the tour.
